Beijing , China , July 23, 2008 – KU6 (www.ku6.com), a leading online video sharing portal, has completed its Series B financing. UMC Capital led this round, which was also participated by SBI, Itochu and Hotung. The existing investors, DFJ and DT Capital, also took part in the financing. The investors pledged to leverage their vast resources to support KU6 in its continuing efforts to become China 's leading video sharing portal with strong leadership in commercialization and monetization. China eCapital acted as the exclusive financial advisor to KU6 on this transaction.
Founded in June 2006 by Mr. Li Shanyou, an online media veteran and former senior VP and chief editor of Sohu, KU6 has quickly emerged from hundreds of Youtube copycats to become the first video portal to generate significant revenue from online advertising.
In June 2008, KU6 was the first privately held video portal to receive an official video broadcasting license by State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (the “SARFT”). Prior to that, KU6 was awarded by CCTV, China's national broadcaster, the rights to provide VOD services on the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games using CCTV's video images, as the first one amongst all video sharing portals.
